La provincia Transduriana / The Transdurian province

La Hispania romana tuvo un distrito militar. Durante las guerras cántabras, la situación no terminaba de pacificarse. Al norte del río Duero, los romanos desgajaron la región de astures, galaicos y cántabros, y crearon la provincia Transduriana, tal y como refleja el Bronce de Bembibre, hallado en El Bierzo.

Existe el debate sobre si fue o no una provincia real. Los defensores de esta teoría aseguran que estuvo bajo el mando militar de Lucio Sestio Quirinalo Albaniano. La medida no debió ser eficaz porque en el 19 aC, tras la batalla de Monte Medulio, hubo que despachar al general Marco Vipsanio Agripa para terminar con las insurrecciones arrasando la región. Es probable que la provincia ya hubiese desaparecido cuando Augusto visitó estas tierras por segunda vez, entre los años 15 y 13 aC.

The Roman Hispania had a military district. During the Cantabrian Wars, the problem didn't be solved. North of river Duero, Romans split the Asturian, Galaecian and Cantabrian regions off and created the Transdurian province, as reflected in the Bronze of Bembibre, found in El Bierzo.

There is a debate about if it was a real province or not. The defenders of the theory claim that Transdurian was under the military control of Lucius Sestius Quirinalis Albinianus. The measure should not be effective because in 19 bC, after the battle of mount Medulius, Rome had to send the general Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa to eradicate the uprising devastating the region. Probably, the province had dissapeared when Augustus visited these lands fo the second time, between 15 bC and 13 bC.
