La paga del 'Glorioso Alzamiento' // The 'Glorious Uprising' bonus

El Gobierno franquista hizo una intensa campaña de propaganda para justificar la sublevación contra el Gobierno republicano en 1936. Consideraron la fecha del pronunciamiento militar que condujo a la Guerra Civil, el 18 de julio (en realidad, fue el 17 de julio en el protectorado de Marruecos), como el hito fundacional del régimen. Se utilizó junto a términos como 'Glorioso Alzamiento', la 'verdadera España' y la 'Cruzada'. Franco fue convertido en 'el caudillo salvador' y en 'El Africano', en clara comparación con Escipión.

Pero el 'Movimiento' convirtió el 18 de julio en un símbolo de la dictadura. Era 'el día del valor' y fiesta nacional. Todas las ciudades tenían una calle con ese nombre. Y se constituyó que los trabajadores recibiesen una paga extra en esa fecha, conocida como la 'paga del 18 de julio'. Al llegar la democracia, esta fecha perdió su relevancia y se relacionó a hechos negativos. Sin embargo, en las empresas en las que hay pagas extra, se siguió conservando la paga de julio.

The Francoist government made a strong propaganda to justify the revolt against the Republican government in 1936. They considered the date of the military insurrection which caused the Spanish Civil War, 18th July (in fact, it was 17th July in the protectorate of Morocco), as the milestone of the regime. It was used together with terms as 'Glorius Uprising', 'the real Spain' and 'The Crusade'. Franco was transformed in the 'saviour caudillo' and 'The African', compared with Scipio.

But the 'Movimiento' truned this date in a symbol of the dictatorship. It was 'the day of the courage' and national holiday. Almost all cities had a street with this name. And the government introduced a bonus for the workers in this date, known as the 'Glorious Uprising' wage. When democracy came to Spain, this date lost its relevance and was associated to negative facts. Nevertheless, in the companies which have bonus, the extra wage of July was kept until now.
