History has done justice with Orce Man 31 years later. In 1982, the paleoanthropologist Josep Gilbert i Clos found in the site of Venta Micena, in Orce (Granada), a fossil which had between 1,6- 1,8 million years. There was inmediately a huge controversy.

There was such a scientific pressure that discoverers admitted in 1987 the fossil was a donkey cranium. The discovery was ridiculed (the band Siniestro Total composed a song, there was magazines linking the error with the lower Spanish cultural level) although later fossiles maintained the debate.

Lastly, in 2013, after 11 years of study, investigators of Orce presented a milk back tooth of a 10 year-old kid who lived 1,4 million years ago which closed the debate. It had been considered the found fossil of the oldest European (if Georgia and its 'Homo Georgicus' aren't considered of the continent), 200.000 older than the 'Homo SP' found in the Sima del Elefante, in the mountains of Atapuerca (Burgos).
